Position Summary
This position is responsible for assisting the day-to-day husbandry operations in the Aquarium.  Primary responsibilities include assisting with the care and wellbeing of all animals under the facility’s care; assisting in the maintenance of all habitats; and positive team approach within the Life Sciences Department.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain animal habitats. 
  • Clean and maintain Life Sciences areas. 
  • Diet preparation and feeding of animals.  
  • Observe and communicate any animal health concerns. 
  • Care for, handle, and work safely with a variety of live animals, including fish, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. 
  • Provide superior guest interactions.  
  • Maintain up-to-date electronic and hard-copy records on animal husbandry and maintenance, as necessary.  
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with Guest Experience Department and proactively engage aquarium guests through talks, fun facts, and feed demonstrations.
  • Maintain positive and professional representation of animals, life sciences department, and institution. 
  • Compliance with health and safety standards in accordance with local municipality, state and federal rules and regulations.  
  • Compliance of all policy and procedures. 
  • Assist in emergency situations to minimize damage, loss or injury to guests, team members, animals or company property. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent guest interaction/entertainment/interpretation skills

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions well

  • Professional demeanor, reliable, strong work ethic, positive attitude, and dedicated to the mission of zoos & aquariums 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong listening, presentation and decision-making skills.
Abilities
The individual must possess the following abilities to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some or a combination of the abilities.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to read, listen and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of discoloration, abnormalities, and emergency situations.
  • Requires the ability to perform the physical, visual and hearing requirements in the working conditions below.
